Know what a discount does to your profit

Multiply the original selling price by one minus the discount rate to get the new price. Subtract the entered cost to estimate the profit left on the sale.

Example

An item priced at 100 with a cost of 65 normally leaves 35. A 20% discount reduces the price to 80 and leaves 15. That reduces the per-item profit by more than half, even though the discount was only 20%.

The discounted price is rounded to two decimals. This tool applies a single discount and assumes your entered cost is unchanged. Include selling fees and other costs in your cost input if you want them reflected. It does not model extra sales generated by the promotion.
